RETURN TO PATIENT INFORMATION

Medical Records

Your Medical Records Are Secure With Us
Did you know that your health information can be given out, sometimes without your permission. For instance, when you enter a hospital and sign the Conditions of Agreement, one item you are signing is the release of your records to your insurance provider.

There are federal and state regulations governing the dissemination of patient records. Often times, as in the case of insurance coverage, you might not mind this information going out for the payment of your bill. But what can you do to further protect your health record from being distributed? One thing you can do is provide the hospital with a caveat delineating who can or cannot receive your patient information.

Another regulation that is currently being implemented is a new federal regulation called the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). This new law was first designed to protect computerized patient information, but it has been expanded to include all patient-related information.

We go to great extents to protect your information from the hands of those who have not been authorized to receive it. If you have any questions concerning your records or on items of confidentiality, please contact our Health Information Systems Department at 714-754-5567. We will be glad to help you in the area of confidentiality and privacy of your records.
