Golden Years - Senior Mental Health Unit

Retirement, divorce, loss of loved ones, medical illness and decreased independence are issues that many of us eventually face. Sometimes our coping mechanisms break down, impairing mental and/or physical functioning.

At Coastal Communities Hospital, we believe in treating the whole person. That's why we developed Golden Years, a psychiatric program providing diagnostic and treatment for people 55 years or older that aims to restore or maintain each individual's health and quality of life.

Our inpatient, hospital-based program provides intensive treatment with the goal of moving individuals to less restrictive care settings as soon as clinically possible. Patients are treated with compassion and respect in a warm, secure and comforting setting. Family participation is encouraged so we can tailor our care to each patient's specific condition, interests and preferences.

Golden Years focuses on patients with cognitive mental changes, affective disorders, acute psychoses, major depression, and adjustment disorders of aging and early dementia with behavioral affective disorder. Program approaches vary by patient, but treatment may include group, individual and/or family counseling, plus occupational and recreational therapy.

For more information about our geriatric psychiatry program, please call Coastal Communities Hospital at 714.850-4961.
